James Patterson

James is an Accounting Partner with over 17 years of experience in Australian accounting and taxation services to Small and Medium businesses, across most industries.

In July 2022, James and his firm (Argent Accounting) officially became part of The Hopkins Group, bringing to the table extensive expertise with service offering not only core Business Accounting & Taxation Compliance Services, but also his Business Strategic Services & a raft of other Support offerings, including operational & management experience.

In 2014, James founded Argent Accounting and Law with his wife, Melissa. What started as a small practice, after eight years of hard work, they grew the firm to a successful duel service business with approximately 20 staff, including Accountants, Lawyers, as well as Support and Administrative staff.

It was always James’s vision to be able to offer his clients a holistic, multi-tiered service offering beyond just accounting (and legal services). He wanted to create an end-to-end service offering to his clients, that would encompass all aspects of their business and personal financial journeys, from financial advisory to investment planning to tax and accounting.

In 2021, James came across The Hopkins Group and saw a strong alignment between his service goals for clients and The Hopkins Group’s service offering philosophy. Following the successful merger of Argent Law and a larger boutique national law firm, James decided to take the opportunity to merge his Accounting business with The Hopkins Group.

James is now an Accounting Partner, a stakeholder, and the group’s leader for business tax and accounting. James Patterson is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Certificate of Public Practice with ICAANZ.
