Steve Boyd

Steve Boyd is the Head of Specialised Property Investment with The Hopkins Group and works with clients to help reach their financial goals through strategic, alternative and niche property investment solutions.

Following years of being an active and passionate property investor himself since 2004, entering the property industry professionally was a logical next step. In 2017, Steve achieved his goal, stepping into a property focused advisory role after more than 12 years working in various senior roles in the media and advertising industry. His highly consultative and strategic approach to working with clients has been honed from his personal experiences as a client, both good and bad, navigating the property space.

Steve started working with The Hopkins Group in early 2021 after successfully setting up and running his own property investment consultancy business. He has been a financial planning client of The Hopkins Group since 2000 and has personally known both Michael Williams (Managing Director) and John Hopkins (Executive Chairman) since that time, which is one of the key reasons Steve joined the business.

He is passionate about assisting clients reach their financial goals, which helps provide both the lifestyle and increased choices that wealth creation brings. Steve works extremely closely with his clients in a highly engaged and collaborate manner, that often results in becoming the ‘trusted adviser’ in a short period of time.

Steve is a Fully Licensed Real Estate Agent in both Victoria and Queensland, and is also qualified with a Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management.

 

John Hopkins

John Hopkins is the founder and Executive Chairman of The Hopkins Group, first established in 1980.

He is also the founder and director of Lantern Property Partners (a subsidiary of the Hopkins Group, working alongside intermediaries nationally and internationally).

In his early years, John undertook an intense Business Management course at Ansett Freight Express (a substantial and national trucking arm of Ansett Transport Industries). He then began his career with Barry Iles, a successful estate agency in Hawthorn, Melbourne, where he was asked to be a director at age 26. Following this, John established John Hopkins and Company, and has since expanded the Company’s service offering to include financial planning, tax and accounting, mortgage and finance, property advisory, and property management.

As a pioneer in the property investment industry, John has been involved in financial services and property throughout Australia and abroad, with his clients having purchased in excess of four billion dollars’ worth of investment properties in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

John has also been involved in several government inquiries into property and financial services over his career, where he was invited to present information on the industry.

Throughout the years, John has been heavily involved in print media and radio, having hosted weekly radio programs and written syndicated columns across prominent Australian newspapers. He is also an accomplished public speaker, both nationally and internationally.

John’s involvement in the community has been one of the focal points of his career. He is currently an active ambassador and speaker for beyondblue. His philanthropic activities have included being a Director and Chairman of Melbourne Montessori School, President of a substantial childcare centre in Albert Park, and he currently serves as a member of the Business School Advisory Board at Deakin University. John was also the benefactor and founding chairperson of the Property Investment Association of Australia (PIAA), now the Property Investment Professionals of Australia (PIPA), a not-for-profit organisation established to represent all industries and professions involved with property investment.

John is passionate about the relationship of wealth and lifestyle, the importance of attaining a balance between ones’ personal, occupational and financial interests, and the interdependence of the three. He has written the unique John Hopkins Three Circle Financial Planning Methodology.

His business involvements aside, John always maintains his five beautiful children are by far his greatest engagement.

 

Stephen Phillips

Stephen Phillips is an Executive Property Investment Adviser with The Hopkins Group.

Joining the company in September 2002, Stephen has extensive knowledge of the Australian property investment markets, working in the industry for over 36 years.

Stephen takes great pride in ensuring his clients are well looked after, guiding them through the property investment journey from start to finish. Stephen knows his clients circumstances intimately, ensuring his advice is always in the best interests of their personal situation.

Working closely with the service teams across The Hopkins Group, Stephen ensures his clients have access to a holistic financial service offering so that they can secure financial independence and financial wellbeing.

Stephen is qualified with a Diploma of Land Use Studies and Urban Economics, a Diploma of Housing Studies (BA), and a Real Estate Agents Representative Certificate.

 

Michael Sheppard

Michael Sheppard is Head of Property Development, working within our property team.

Working alongside The Hopkins Group team since March 2017, Michael has been instrumental in introducing a niche property development service for our clients.

In his role, Michael helps clients determine how they can profitably develop land that they own or are considering purchasing. He guides clients through the whole process, from initial site inspections to conducting feasibility assessments, negotiating council planning permits and providing design and build advice.

Beginning his career with a high end custom builder in Melbourne, Michael has developed his passion for property development across more than a decade in the industry. Today, he manages a team specialising in multi-unit (townhouse) design, focused on providing a quality service to help our clients achieve success. He gets a real thrill when his clients achieve record results.

A sporting enthusiast, Michael enjoys wakeboarding, kart racing, golf and diving. While working hard and staying focused is important, he always likes to find the humor in life. He enjoys travelling, experiencing new cultures and seeing new places. But above all else, family is his greatest priority.

Michael is a licensed real estate agent (VIC, NSW and QLD).
